3/26 - 100 Inning Game Wrap up
Just a quick note to let everyone know how we ended up with this year’s 100 Inning Game fundraiser! In many ways this was a huge success for the following reasons:
- Volunteers and participation from the Parents! Thank you all for your help and support to carry out this day!
- Alumni! We had 8 of our former alumni show up and play! Thanks Allen Watson for coordinating.
- Outside participants - Thanks to Mark Dirks for getting his Church softball team to come out and participate.
- Interest from the students at the school, we had a marketing class do our advertising at lunch time, etc. These students have some good ideas for future events.
Financially, we raised $3502.25 which includes player and parent donations, gate and concessions. Thanks to you all for your support.
3/24 - 4 Homerun fifth leads North Davidson past Northwest
Northwest held a good North Davidson Black Knights offense scoreless for four innings. However, the Black Knights scored 3 in the third and sixth and six in the fifth, included hitting four home runs, to down the Vikings 12-3. Steven Plante did a nice job on the mound keeping the Black Knights off balance for four innings before they began to figure him out in the fifth.
The Vikings jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Chris Corbett doubled with one. Two batters later Duncan Everett doubled home Corbett for a 1-0 lead. Everett moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Keaton Haack reached on an error.
In the fifth down 9-2, Sanders Kuxhausen doubled and scored when Corbett singled him home the next at bat.

3/23 - Vikings plate 3 in 7th to rally past Eagles
Northwest used a solid relief outing from Adam Swim, two critical East Forsyth mistakes, and clutch hitting to come from behind in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat East Forsyth 6-5. The win moved the Vikings to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the competitive Piedmont Triad 4A conference.
The Vikings found themselves down three heading into the bottom of the third inning. One out singles by Steven Plante and Sanders Kuxhausen started a rally. With two outs Ben Schmucker was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Duncan Everett's pop up was then misplayed to score Plante and Kuxhausen and cut the Eagle led to 3-2.
Swim entered with a man on in the fourth. His first four batters went fielders choice, hit, hit and sacrifice fly. East moved their lead to 5-2. Counting that sacrifice fly, Swim would retire 11 straight Eagle hitters, going three up and three down the last three frames to keep the Vikings in the game and set up the seventh inning drama. Swim recorded three strike outs and picked up his first win in his four innings.
Jackson Bellenkes helped the Vikings inch closer with a home run to left field in the fourth cutting the Eagle lead to 5-3. The Vikings would put a runner on in the fifth and sixth, but the Eagle starter pitched around both and went six crafty innings keeping the Vikings off balance through out the night. East' ace entered in the seventh and the drama began. Derek Henley struck out to lead off the bottom of the seventh on a ball in the dirt. The Eagle catcher pulled the first basemen off the bag to allow Henley to reach. Two batters later, Kuxhausen doubled to put runners on second and third. Chris Corbett followed Kuxhausen with a game tying two RBI single and moved up to second on the throw to the plate. Ben Schmucker was intentionally walked to bring up Duncan Everett. Everett hit the first fast ball he saw back up the middle to score Corbett and give the Vikings the come from behind and much needed win.

The Bobcats rallied for four in the top of the sixth, capped off by a three run homer.
Adam Swim and Jackson Bellenkes excited the crowd in the bottom of the seventh with back to back two out hits, but they were left stranded as the Bobcats held on for the 6-3 win.

3/14 - Haack and extra base hits led Vikings to shutout win
Northwest Guilford 4 Ragsdale 0
Northwest used strong pitching performances from Keaton Haack and Adam Swim and three triples and a home run to beat Ragsdale 4-0 and record their first conference win of the year in the tough Piedmont Triad 4A.
Haack led the Vikings on the mound with five solid innings striking out 11, allowing only two walks and three hits. The victory was Haack's first following his tough luck lost against Northeast. Adam Swim came in to record the last six outs and earn his first save of the season. The pair combined for the first Northwest shutout since 2009.
Sanders Kuxhausen opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a blast over the centerfield fence to put the Vikings ahead 1-0. Chris Corbett extended the lead in the second when he led the inning off with a triple and scored two pitches later on a wild pitch. With one out in the third, Kuxhausen was hit by a pitch and would later advance two bases on a pickoff attempt error. Ben Schmucker drove Kuxhausen home with a triple and push the lead to 3-0. Haack followed with a sacrifice fly to score Schmucker and finish the game scoring at 4. Haack led off the sixth with the third Viking triple of the game, but good Ragsdale pitching kept him at third and didn't allow him to score.
