3/31 - Vikings vs East Forsyth
Stephen Mekita scattered six hits in a shutout for his fourth win of the season as NW beat East Forsyth 6-0 to move the Vikings to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Metro 4A. With the win, the Vikings are the only remaining unbeaten team in the Metro 4A and put themselves in a position to control there own destiny in the conference race.

Corey McKinney led the game off with a HR and the Vikings quickly jumped ahead 1-0. In the fifth, Nathan Becker led off with a single, followed by a Sanders Kuxhausen bunt single. Two batters later, Robbie McIntosh singled to load the bases. In the at bat of the night, Alex Swim took two pitches and went down in the count 0-2. After fouling off a tough pitch, Swim doubled down the left field line to score Becker and Kuxhausen. McIntosh scored on a Mekita ground out and the Vikings led 4-0 after 5. With one out in the 7th, McKinney went deep for his second HR of the game. McIntosh followed with a double and scored on a Mekita single two batters later.

3/24 - Vikings vs High Point Central
Stephen Mekita pitched a complete game four hitter for his third win of the year to lead the Vikings to a 6-0 record and the first conference win of the season 6-2 over High Point Central.

The scoring starting in the second inning when Glen Clemmons scored on a Phillip Dixon double. Dixon later scored on a two out single by Jake Sipe to put the Vikings up 2-0. Central would tie the game in the third at 2, and that scored held until the top of the sixth. Mekita helped his cause leading the inning off with a single. He stole second, and moved to third on a Clemmons sacrifice bunt. Dixon then hit a sacrifice fly to put NW ahead 3-2. Mekita had to pitch around a couple of Viking errors in the sixth, but left the two men on to preserve the 3-2 lead.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, the top of the order finally got hot. Corey McKinney singled and moved to second on an error. Robbie McIntosh then tripled to score McKinney. Alex Swim followed with a single to score McIntosh. Swim's courtesy runner Garrett Stell manufactured the final run by stealing second then third and scored on a throwing error trying to throw him out.


3/19 - Vikings vs Western Guilford
Robbie McIntosh, Alex Swim and Stephen Mekita hit back to back to back Home Runs and Ben Saunders pitched 5 1/3 innings for his first win of the season as the Vikings beat rival Western Guilford 12-5 to improve to 5-0 on the season. Down 3-0 after the first inning, Northwest hitters found their way on base in a variety of ways (reaching base after a strikeout, walk and hit by pitch) in the second inning without a hit. That quickly changed when Robbie McIntosh belted a Grand Slam Home Run over the centerfield fence to give Northwest a 5-3 lead in the second inning. Swim followed McIntosh with a blast over the rightfield fence. Not to be out done by his teammates, Mekita greeted a new Hornet pitcher with a HR over right center field to put NW up 7-3.

With one out in the fifth, Phillip Dixon and Tommy Houston reached on back to back singles. Jake Sipe then delivered a two RBI triple that help pad the lead. Sipe later scored on a passed ball to put NW up 10-5 at the end of the fifth. NW scored two insurance runs in the sixth to close out the scoring at 12-5.

3/18 - Vikings vs Southwest Guilford
Northwest improved to 4-0 with a 9-7 win over Southwest Guilford Wednesday night at Sandy Gann Field. The Vikings jumped out to a quick start scoring five runs on six hits in the first inning. Corey McKinney led off with a single and moved to second on an error. Robbie McIntosh doubled in McKinney. Alex Swim singled to make it first and third. Stephen Mekita singled home McIntosh for the second run. A Phillip Dixon ground ball scored Jordan Browning(Swim's courtesy runner) for the third run. Glen Clemmons knocked in Mekita with a two out single. Clemmons later scored the last run of the inning on a pitcher throwing error trying to pick him off.

The top of the lineup was at it again in the fourth inning. McKinney led the inning off with a hit and stole second base. McIntosh then walked setting up a two RBI double for Alex Swim. Browning would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Garrett Stell relieved Mekita in the fourth inning and struck out two Cowboy batters with the bases loaded to hold the Viking led of 5-3 at the time. Stell, who picked up his second win of the season, also pitched the fifth and the sixth innings.

3/18 - Upcoming Events
Northwest Viking baseball is hosting a clinic at Oak Ridge Youth Association on Saturday, March 21. Also, the Vikings' hit-a-thon fundraiser will take place on Saturday March 28.


3/10 - Vikings vs Glenn
The Vikings improve to 3-0 with a win over Glenn 6-1. Stephen Mekita threw a 70 pitch complete game for his second win of the season. Robbie McIntosh went 2 for 4 with 2 huge RBI's. Glen Clemmons collected two hits and two runs while Tommy Houston found his way on base three times. Garrett Stell started the scoring in the third inning with a beautiful sacrifice bunt that led to a Glenn error. Stell also picked up a bunt single RBI in the fourth to help led the Vikings.


3/6 - Vikings vs Western Guilford
Glen Clemmons hit a game tying 3-run HR in the 6th inning to led a Viking comeback over Western Guilford 16-10. Clemmons and Stephen Mekita each had 3 hits to lead the 15 hit Viking attack. Corey McKinney, Robbie McIntosh, Alex Swim, and Tommy Houston each had 2 hits a piece in the victory.


3/5 - Vikings vs Northeast Guilford
Stephen Mekita pitched five strong innings striking out seven and Robbie McIntosh went three for four with 2 runs and 3 RBI to lead the Vikings to an 11-1 win over Northeast Guilford. Corey McKinney, Alex Swim, and Tommy Houston collected two hits in the victory.
